Barry Fleming - BiographyI have always had an interest in music from as early as I can remember. Whilst growing up, every Saturday morning I would be woken by the sounds of my sister playing the latest chart releases - from Whitney Houston to Stevie Wonder, followed by the enchanting tones and musical styles of such artists as Chris de Burgh. My Father also had a vast selection of records, most of which covered a ’country’ theme; and on occasion - when he could get near the hi-fi, I was also granted the pleasure of listening to a very different type of musical experience. Going from the dance genre (and my sister jumping around our living room), to my dad arguing that ’they didn’t write them like this anymore’. Perhaps what nobody knew then was what effect all of these musical styles was having on the 9-year-old upstairs; and just what an influence it would have on him in the years to come. After buying my first keyboard around the age of 14, I no longer had to rely on what was playing on the family hi-fi - I could make music of my own, and I loved it! I never learned to read music, so every song I had heard could be brought from memory and onto the keys - something my family and friends were impressed with from the start. In many ways I was almost like a human jukebox - they would tell me a song and I would play it. What I didn’t know then was just how much this new-found interest would change my life, and what pathways it would take me down. That was all back in 1986, and seems like a lifetime ago - indeed it wasn’t yesterday; but my interest in making music and writing songs has brought me into contact with many good people and taken me to places I would otherwise have missed. I think it’s safe to say my interest in song-writing and music production in general is as strong, if not stronger now, than it has ever been. I now have a home recording studio and produce, write and arrange all my own songs from start to finish using some of the latest technologies. I have been on the circuit - both here and mainland UK for the past 20+ years under the name ’Boo’… and I still love every minute of it. I would like to thank everyone who has influenced, supported, listened, guided and stood by me all these years… I hope it was worth the wait… Enjoy! Barry - November 2009 |
